The Meditation Course

Forty-three years ago, I attended a nine-day silent Vipassanā meditation retreat. There were forty of us. We attended The Sixth Basic Course at Claymont [2] [3], a Gurdjieff school.

Bhante Dharmawara Mathahera, a 92-year-old Cambodian Buddhist Monk, was our teacher and guide[4].

Three days before the Meditation Retreat, my girlfriend/soulmate broke up with me. I had proposed marriage to her a day earlier. (She turned down my proposal, too.)

I took on extra work to help keep my mind off the break-up. I was to record Bhante’s lectures and stories.
