As an astrologer I have found that some of the most compatible elements for relationships are Venus Mars aspects. Looking at the birth chart for how a person does in relationship is just as important as Sun sign / Venus - Mars relations and house placement.

In other words reducing to compatable Sun signs limits the range of relational elements for a successful relationship.
