Excellent story, good awakening. Illusion is everywhere, hiding in plain slight as you have deftly illustrated.

When I first moved an object in water without touching it, I thought I was crazy and ran away. Twenty five years later I did a similar thing, only I was 40 feet away instead of 3 feet, and it fit better within a different reality set.
