He wondered whether it had been a vision from the Jewel of the Sky. If he could only access its power — but it seemed to respond only to the Diva’s touch.
The pod was dark and Azura was gone.
He let his leg fall from the bed and tried to stand, but collapsed in a heap, his chest heaving and his breathing labored. He stayed on the floor for a long time and finally mustered the strength to crawl back into the bed.
The black darkness of the dream fingered his thin body as if to wake him. The gaunt skeleton-like young man stood over him.
