[TW: addiction, slavery, violence, and dreams of revenge]
Previous Chapter:
Gren prayed for the rain to come. The others didnβt seem to care, lost in the addictions of aching muscles and the promise of the bittermead. Lightning struck in fierce violence with thunder and sizzle. It splitting a dead tree about fifteen feet away. All his hairs stood on end. Everyone flinched save Gren. Something of the lightning awakened him.
The guards ordered a tying down of the tarp. More lightning, and then the rain came.
Days passed and the rains continued.
The foreman (man with the clipboard) came and freed all but Timel and Gren. They watched as the foreman gave the others a pittance of coins and small sips of the bitter mead.
The rains continued. The heavy rains accompanied by lightning and distant rolling thunder shook the ground.
