In a nutshell — 500 light years from Earth, this group of gas and baby stars 9,000 light-years long is in a traveling wave. It is the kind of wave with the same kind of action as a wave at a baseball game with people in the stands — known as “the wave”. So says Ralf Konietzka, scientist member of the team and author/spokesman of the team.
The wave was named for 20th century women astronomers from Radcliffe College.
