I agree that fossil fuel is a dangerous substance on many levels. And I agree that the political will is a strong as over-cooked pasta. The lack of real leadership has been virtually useless in making any real change that will have an impact. I look forward to the time that younger generations take the reigns of political power.

And while solar and wind have their place, geothermal, hydro, and tidal energy are also good alternative sources. Solar and wind in their current state of development do not cover all the needs for power to our 8 billion people on the planet. I like Bucky Fuller's idea of building solar panels in space and beaming the energy back to Earth though that may be impractical and too costly. Modular nuclear and thermal-salt nuclear reactors are also carbon neutral and much, much safer than previous large scale reactors. And there are new recent (over the summer of '22) developments in fusion that may be promising and have less cost than the current ITER project in Europe.

Moreover having lived for 70+ years I see that one of the greatest downfalls of the current iteration of capitalism is rampant consumerism, an over-indulgence in meat eating vis a vis agricultural practices.

I felt that you were being cavalier regarding the use of a solar panel with an a/c unit. Having lived the first 30 years of my life on the eastern seaboard of the US with heat and humidity in to the 90s Degrees in F and percentages along with cloud cover - there are some places where solar would not be so effective.

What about heat pumps instead of a/c? I don't know much about them.

The last question -to which I have no answer BTW is how do we force our wet-noodle politicians to make the hard choices to save our world?
