I was fortunate to have experienced seeing Earth from space as described in my book, a memoir in the summer of 1968:
"The evening before we were to leave I ran across the wet mud and leapt into the air.
Time stopped. I was in space as light connected every being in steamers of light; planet Earth was a ball of light like a small white sun...
The warm wet mud was coming up between my toes. The sun was setting across Cape Cod Bay."
Like the astronauts I was connected to every living being on the planet.* Even now as I re-write this I feel tears of joy. In 1970 after my freshman year in college I came out as a pacifist to my family (and against the war in Vietnam).
Thank-you Rebecca, I never knew the full experience of the astronauts until you wrote about them here.
*beings include water, rocks, plants, trees, light, air, mountains, oceans, Earth herself - all "things" of Earth are living beings to me.
