I bought my first smart phone two years ago. I use it to make phone calls, and deposit checks. Other than that am not with it. It's too clunky to go into my pocket, so it goes into my backpack and leave it in the car when I go into the grocery market.

I have a code for the internet much like you have laid out in your piece. I have a purpose. I don't deviate from it. All notifications are off when I'm at home, save for texting and only my ringer is on when I'm out. I have a landline and that may go off if I'm working on writing a particular heady piece or a complicated plot in fiction.
