In Germany auto manufacturers are required to recycle all parts of the car down to the engine core so as not to have any cars in landfills - a government regulation.

My parents bought a GE toaster in the 1950s. I have their toaster and it still makes great toast. Pride in products meant to last. This was when capitalism focused on quality products meant to last - materialistic capitalism instead of consumer capitalism.
