In going to the void or nothingness - there is nothing in the void, so the "I" that that goes there becomes nothing. In short when "I" emerges from the void the "I" point of view has no memory of having been there - as if there was "a there" in the first place. There is no "there" because the void is devoid of spacetime.

I can only infer that I've been to the void based on the results. Everything superfluous is stripped from identity leaving me with close to nothing- a barely flimsy sense of self. This can lead to a state of catatonia until the semblance of ego returns. This was experienced twice by something like "a me". This is a good cleanse of ego and self.

Indigenous North Americans have a practice of "going" to the void. When they return some have reported months of catatonia.
