Like any President the people who support that person represent a complex array of the US population. I know and am friends with some Trump supporters who are highly educated middle to upper class voters. They are embarrassed by his personality quirks, but they favor his strong sense of individualism, smaller government and seeming fiscal sense. Most of Trump’s gestalt seems opportunistically favoring the GOP philosophical stance for his own personal gain. I have had some shouting matches with my sister who is an ardent Trump supporter and Fox News devotee. I believe she represents part of the aspiring upperclass Trump supporters, she has many biases, prejudices and fears. Instead of getting angry at her for her stance I’ve taken to asking her questions about topics she brings up. When she can’t come up with a solution she deflects into another prejudicial subject due to an anxiety about saying she doesn’t know what the solution is. It’s interesting that she doesn’t ask me about the topic at all. This seems characteristic of Trump’s style.
