Most anger is expressed as acting-out anger and is both addictive and ineffective. Anger produces neurotransmitters called catecholamines causing a kinetic energy surge much like the fight in the fight or flight response. Once the neurotransmitters are released and may often include discharges of dopamine, epinephrine and norepinephrine aka adrenal then come the feelings of strength and invulnerability which are often addictive.
Men in particular often get stuck in this pattern which may be in part related to our toxic patriarchal system of “power-over” hierarchical enslavement of all those lower than one’s position.
The rioting yesterday and subsequent violence is an example of addictive rage in a stuck cycle.
