My father and my Aunt Aggie believed in my writing. My 6th-grade teacher told me I plagiarized a short fiction story I wrote. My father went to bat for me, and still, the teacher failed me. But instead of believing a falsehood, I took it as a backhanded compliment. And decided to become a writer.
