Seeking happiness and seeking contentment share one attribute in common. Most seeking for a particular emotional state is a postponement of that state into a future. Futures are illusory. Could seeking be an aversion to the ephemeral present?

Expanding from the idea of the fleeting present (which we only define as past once as it is said or written) to include a Being State of an expanded present moment. My ego does not grok an expanded present. My Being does grok it and more - mainly Love and Unconditional Love. Of course as I describe Being in grokking Unconditional Love my sense of I gets attached. Oh well.

Here's a story I wrote about the hanky-panky of time: https://medium.com/illumination/no-present-then-how-to-live-d1d0aec71c3d?sk=61ca3ebd5001e8459bbe14a9f394af87

Is seeking an illusion? I have sought and found in the past, or maybe is a discovery or an uncovering.

I work at and continue to fail at remain neutral due to my attachments of emotions and the thoughts associated with them.

Anyway this has been a round-about way to writing that I agree with you Marcus that contentment approaches neutral along the continuum of grief/sadness to happiness (and beyond).
