Shakti Gawain who wrote Creative Visualizations back in 1978 wrote a great piece on healing intrusive negative thoughts.
I used "my personal movie theatre" approach. I saw the negative thought on the screen. My inner self used a long mop as an eraser to eliminate the negative image while I replaced it with a positive or neutral image. Now, intrusive negative thoughts happen and fly out and are replaced instantly.
