The Sanskrit texts known as the Yugas predict a time (the last 12 to 13,000 years as the Descending an Ascending Kali Yugas. And that this part of the Kali Yuga ends in 2024 followed by a 300 year cusp or buffer period to the Ascending Dwapara Yuga - a more enlightened period (of 6,000 years). according to the precepts of this time this is suppose to be what's happening now.

Kali Yuga is define by commerce - aka money, division, moral bankruptcy, greed, and the breakdown of community.
