The capitalism of the 1950s and early 60s seemed to be about materialism. I have a GE toaster that my parents bought in the 50s that works well to this day. This was the era after WWII where a sense of permanence was sought, communities existed and thrived and labor unions proliferated. I saw an interview with one of the Big Three Automakers production line craftsman on a news show who said he was proud of his work. The materialistic capitalism of the post-war era was altered in a way of focusing on money as the goal instead of the quality of goods and services.

Once deregulation occurred in industry, media and services profit was accentuated. The reductionistic thinking of the advance of capitalism is headed towards its logical end: destruction of the human race based on greed.

As a species we’re on the cusp of the death of the patriarchy and by necessity a cooperative way of being, based on globalism and the challenge of climate crisis. There are those of us that become angry in the face of fear of this this change. We look to a romanticization of the past, look to toxic masculine “leaders” (aka “dictatorial figures”) and predatory capitalism to reinforce an illusion of the past that has lead to increasing isolation, everybody for themselves and the end of the human community. There are those of us that confront our fears and begin to work for solutions that benefit all humans often having a vision of a new world based on cooperation, equal access to economies and addressing the climate crisis head on full ahead.
