We - meaning all that are so charged up with outrage that Trump is a (leader), project what we are afraid of into the text perhaps unconsciously. (I do it myself sometimes too.) In general we are quick to go to outrage because on-line discussions on Medium and other social media platforms trains us to express outrage imulsively and as a "knee-jerk" reaction.

There is no true social interactions (face to face) where civility comes into play in the on-line world.

Others have already stated that the author did not write that "Mr Trump is a patriot." That has been cleared up.

I deduce that the author, Mr. Wish, naming reason one "Presidents are patriots" is writing - most presidents are thought of as patriots - so it stands to reason that Mr. Trump thinks this way too.
