While clumping most Americans of the Middle Class and higher this is mostly true.

However poor people: black, white and people of color are constantly forced into situations where they are being asked to sacrifice due to lack of means. Black people, people of color and LGBQT are at the lowest end of the hierarchy and are enslaved to forces of racism, discrimination and slavery. Besides the frustrations, anger, rage and decades (centuries) of grief within the bottom of the pecking order - its invisible to most of us, unless our attention is drawn to a recognition of it.

As usual the answers are more complex, at times, than we would wish them to be.
