“You’re told you need to set goals.
You’re told you must be driven to make it to the top.”
I laughed for nearly a minute heartily and remembered what my father told me: “Find something you like to do and then do that.”
I found your piece very affirming. Thank-you.
Many people have told me over the years: “You can’t do that.”, when I had an idea. I did it anyway because it felt right and I wanted to do it.
In the 1990s after I had been called by the deepest parts of myself to surrender to being a shaman (an adequate word to describe what I do) I was invited to participate in a success group. At first I felt I didn’t belong there because financially I was barely getting by. But then I realized it wasn’t about the money, it was that I was honing my skills, becoming a craftsman and serving my clients. It felt good then and it feels good now.
I feel rich as a result of:
- Pursuing my likes and exploring
- learning for the sake of learning
- taking risks, facing failure and living through it
- risking being rejected by others by allowing my weirdness to hang-out for many to see.
