He found the strength to stand despite the feeling that his head felt split in two.
“Where are you, my staff?” he said aloud.
His heart beat faster. He turned in the direction where he thought the staff might be and staggered away. For a time, he followed the light he sensed in his head.
There was the staff — standing straight up in the center of a mound.
The Diva stood there, near to his staff, with a translucent bag of small turquoise stones. It was as if the Diva and his staff, in two separate worlds, joined in his mind.
