Beams of sunlight shone into Gren’s new home. Horace, son of Zol, the shaman, was the first to spot the light. “The light does not come from the mountains alone. Gren and his sword within make the light with the reflected light,” Horace said. “And there the magic is.” Surprising himself with the revelation as he spoke.

“Horace, where is Zol? Where has he gone?” Gren asked.

“He left a week ago; he said that we needed help. He went to look for it.”

“Meaning we — as in this settlement? Gren asked.

Horace nodded — yes.

Gren sat and fell to sleep.

Timel and Horace selected foods left by the people of the settlement for Gren.
