It was a moonless night. Only stars flung across the sky shed some light.

Gren’s mouth opened wide. He was in shock, having been integrated into his body in an abrupt motion and thrown off the cliff. Confused and disoriented, he plummeted.

Ruby and the other hummingbirds quadrupled themselves. They lifted Gren to the other side of the ravine. Many other hummingbirds swarmed with bioluminescent wings in the night. They lifted Gren and flew him up the small mountain. He landed near Vernalley’s nest.

The sword ejected from his head and twirled above his head before its hilt landed in his right hand.
