“You’ll have to hurry if you are to meet him,” Horace’s wife and lifemate, Qua-Mindee, told Horace as Zol stood by. She turned, calling out over the garden, “Ja, come hither.”

“Ja gave him the instructions,” she added as Ja approached.

Ja, the eldest, came and relayed what he had told the Wanderer.

“Qua-Mindee, you did not use any magic to slow his progress?” Zol interjected.

“Horace and I discussed it, and we both concluded it was not best,” she said. “He has a day’s advanced start,” she added.

Zol drew a forked path in the dirt with his heel. “Could we get him to bear left on this path?”
